Satirical Lock

Satire. It’s silliness. A joke. That’s what the #satiricallockseries is meant to  be—a play on our Locks because they are functional “with a wink” but mostly frivolously beautiful. On a technical front, they are 18k gold, pave,  hot enamel, cold enamel, inlay—so much! We have made two of them—Marla says one day she’ll make 5. They work like our other Locks but they  are also little storylands with creatures—bunnies, snails, butterflies. They are some of the most labor intensive, “you’d have to be crazy to make that” pieces in our collection and some of the finest folks working jewelry help us bring them to fruition. Marla’s friend and director Reed Morano has worn one to the Met Gala — and Marla has worn an incomplete one to a jewelry party because…satire.

“I can’t quite explain why the obsession with making a series of Locks that are satirical was something we had to do. But we did. They work like our other Locks but they are also little story lands. They are some of the most labor-intensive, insane parts of our collection and proudly (very proudly) made in New York City. ”
